Living it Out at your job

Most GAP Year programs require a significant financial investment - commonly ranging from $20-30K for a program of similar length and content. Outside of the initial month room and board investment and a designated support-raised requirement prior to arrival, the cost of this program is designed to be funded by scholarship donors, and income earned by each attendee through employment they have while attending the program. Each attendee will be offered and required to work with one of our community business owner partners who have open positions.

The purpose of working while attending The Gap at Sawmill Meadow:

  1. Earn income to help fund the experience.

  2. Build and develop a work history that highlights consistency, timeliness, and resilience.

  3. Develop relationships with managers who are willing to provide a work reference for future employers.

  4. Practice consistency in the workplace by being on time.

  5. Be an ambassador for The Gap to all locals and visitors encountered through the job setting.

  6. Practice being the light of Jesus in the world, with all people, and in all circumstances.

Hospitality, construction and service industries are representative examples of job placements for each attendee. A commitment of at least 25 hours of work per week is required of our community business-owner partners. Income from this employer commitment will cover the required, individual, monthly expense to attend the Gap and provide enough money leftover to cover basic living expenses. A 25 hour per week job will not cover additional expenses that Gap attendees bring to the program so other arrangements will have to be made in those circumstances.
